Listen to the diverse voices in the room. It is not enough to invite diverse community members to the table, we must listen to them once they take their seat. It is important to practice compassionate listening rather than simply listening to respond. Focusing on diversity means being mindful that we all have different experiences and perspectives that shape who we are and what we bring to the table. We must ensure that we do not discount other people’s experiences simply because their experiences are different than ours.
